What Botox® Can Do that Other Treatments Can’t

At a certain point, it’s inevitable. You’re going to look in the mirror and see lines and wrinkles that weren’t there before. And if you’re like most people, you won’t feel happy about it.

You probably want your appearance to reflect your vibrant, energetic inner self. Time can make you look tired or even grumpy when you’re not, but Botox® injections can help.

Dr. Jaime Gutierrez and the staff at Forever Bella have years of experience in administering Botox injections. They can help you develop a plan that will keep your skin looking smooth and young. Here are a few of the reasons you may want to choose Botox versus a different treatment option.

FDA approved

Botox, which contains the active ingredient onobotulinumtoxinA, first received FDA approval in 1989 for therapeutic uses. In 2002, the FDA further approved Botox for cosmetic purposes, making it the first and only product of its kind approved by the FDA to treat frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines.

Botox is now the leading cosmetic treatment in the world, and it’s approved for use in 98 countries. When you have Botox treatments, you have the assurance of decades of published research, many years of use, and a solid safety profile.

Other uses

Although Botox is most widely known for its ability to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, it’s used for other purposes as well. A few of the therapeutic uses of Botox include:

At Forever Bella Medspa, we use Botox injections to help you look younger, but knowing that Botox is a powerful therapeutic treatment used in numerous settings means that you know it’s been thoroughly vetted and tested, and it’s safe.

How Botox works

You may have heard that Botox “paralyzes” your facial muscles. That’s not quite accurate. The active ingredient in the injection interrupts the signal your brain sends to your muscles telling them to contract.

In order to make any facial expression, your muscles must contract. Think about when you squint: the muscles between your eyebrows contract, pulling them downward. Each time that happens, your skin creases.

Over time, after making any given expression thousands of times, the creases in your skin become visible even when you’re not contracting your muscles. Botox injections temporarily reduce the muscle contractions that would exacerbate the wrinkles or create new ones, giving your skin a smoother appearance.

Botox has potential side effects, and some people aren’t good candidates for the injections. If it turns out you’re one of those people, Dr. Gutierrez and his staff can suggest other effective treatments to help you reach your goals.

However, for most people, Botox is a time-tested, safe way to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, forehead lines, and wrinkles. If you’d like to learn more about it, call Forever Bella at 830-216-685 or book an appointment online today.
