Thinking About Getting a Photofacial? Here’s What You Can Expect

You don’t have to get injections or surgery to rejuvenate your face, nor do you need to deal with the downtime of a chemical peel. If you want a way to minimize the appearance of imperfections while getting smoother, more youthful-looking skin, look no further.

At Forever Bella Med Spa in Del Rio, Texas, Jaime Gutierrez, MD and Edith Peterson, our aesthetic specialist, offer a leading-edge treatment called a photofacial. Using intense pulsed light (IPL), this treatment delivers light therapy to eliminate a broad range of skin concerns with no downtime afterward.

Think a photofacial could be right for you? Let’s look at how it works and what to expect during and after treatment

The photofacial process

At Forever Bella Med Spa, Edith uses Sciton® Joule™ platform to deliver BroadBand Light™ (BBL™) to your skin. This specialized form of IPL treatment works into the deeper layers of your skin to help clear imperfections and stimulate the creation of new, healthy skin.

During BBL photofacial treatment, you’ll feel Edith move the IPL handpiece over the surface of your skin. In most cases, she’ll have you wear a pair of dark glasses to protect your eyes from the light.

She triggers the BBL device, sending pulses of light energy into your skin. You might feel a sensation a little like a rubber band snapping against your skin during each pulse. As each light pulse hits your skin, your pigmented cells absorb the light. This causes them to break up.

Because of this, a photofacial is an excellent way to reduce the appearance of:

In short, if you have unwanted dark or red spots on your skin, a photofacial helps to clear them. And the entire treatment shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes.

After your photofacial

Your photofacial comes with no downtime. You can get back to doing what you love right after treatment.

Your skin might appear red or feel tender for a short period of time.

In the coming days, you may notice your dark spots becoming more pronounced. This means the treatment is working. Shortly after treatment, your skin purges the treated pigment. You might even see the pigment come to the surface of your skin and flake off in a form that resembles coffee grounds.

You’re left with more radiant, more even skin.

If you want even more dramatic photofacial results, ask Edith about a series of photofacial treatments.
