5 Signs You Might Need Bioidentical Hormone Therapy

Our hormones help our cells communicate, influencing our bodies in magical, mysterious ways. They affect our mood, libido, appetite, growth, and immune system. However, during certain periods, our hormone levels drop, which can hinder our health. Even so, that doesn’t mean we have to feel bad during this period. Dr. Jaime Gutierrez and our team offer personalized plans for bioidentical hormone replacement at our Forever Bella clinic in Del Rio, Texas.

Recognize the signs

Both men and women can suffer from depleted hormones. Men struggle with low testosterone, while women’s estrogen levels may shift during menopause and other times. Men’s testosterone levels affect their physical and emotional health, while estrogen is linked with women’s emotional well-being. Signs indicating you may need hormone rebalancing include:

Many other problems can be eased through hormone therapy, such as fatigue, thinning hair, insomnia, dry skin, and weakened muscles. Bioidentical hormones may also improve symptoms from cancer treatments, adrenal and thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, and insulin resistance.

Hormone replacement therapy

The chemical make-up of bioidentical hormones mirrors that of the human body. Dr. Gutierrez and our staff offer bioidentical hormones, such as BioTE®, created from all-natural ingredients, causing little to no side effects.

One week before your treatment, we recommend ceasing all NSAIDs, such as acetaminophen, aspirin, and ibuprofen. During the actual procedure, Dr. Gutierrez anesthetizes the treatment area of your hip where he makes a small incision to implant the BioTE pellets, which are tinier than grains of rice. Natural hormones gradually spread through your bloodstream. Afterward, you can resume your normal activities, without any downtime.

How long do they work?

You should start noticing an improvement in as little as a month, lasting up to six months. At that time, Dr. Gutierrez can reevaluate you and perform another treatment, as needed.

Bioidentical versus synthetic hormones

The Journal of Postgraduate Medicine studied four trials concerning women who substituted natural progesterone for their synthetic progestin. The women noted fewer side effects and improved quality of life after switching to more natural hormones. These studies further demonstrated that bioidentical hormones cause less risk than synthetic hormones.

Since synthetic hormones do not exactly match your body’s natural hormones, they can produce more side effects. The BioTE method utilizes pellets containing bioidentical testosterone or estrogen, made from estradiol. These are derived from organic plant materials containing the precise molecular structure as those within our bodies. Dr. Gutierrez performs blood work prior to insertion to create your perfectly customized dosage. He then places the pellet under your skin to release a continuous stream of bioidentical hormones.

The best candidates

Women who have or previously had blood clots, breast or ovarian cancer, stroke, liver disease or unexplained vaginal bleeding should avoid hormone therapy. Candidates for bioidentical hormone therapy can avoid any complications by following a few simple guidelines.
